A must read if you’re at all confused (or if you agree) by Bernanke’s Washington Post op-ed piece from this past weekend on the future of the Federal Reserve and his role in it. Maybe, just maybe, this time the Senate will put the Fed in it’s place. The real answer would be to get rid of the Fed and get the government out of the money business altogether.

Democracy, n.:
A government of the masses. Authority derived through mass
meeting or any other form of direct expression. Results in mobocracy.
Attitude toward property is communistic… negating property rights.
Attitude toward law is that the will of the majority shall regulate,
whether it is based upon deliberation or governed by passion,
prejudice, and impulse, without restraint or regard to consequences.
Result is demagogism, license, agitation, discontent, anarchy.

Just for the record, being labeled a conservative these days does not automatically equal being a Republican anymore. The only Republican that I know of that I agree with is Ron Paul. Conservative really means being independent or even Libertarian with a big ‘L’. Socially liberal, fiscally conservative.

So today at work I had a good lesson in how absolutely vital it is to a software development project to have a development methodology in place like Agile Development. We are thinking of specifically utilizing the SCRUM method for my client that I’m working with right now. So, just a few minutes ago I began reading more about SCRUM at the Wikipedia article and find that philosophically I agree with the process and its goals. Agile Development in general fits pretty well with how the GNOME project and Ubuntu do development; they both break goals down into smaller, simpler pieces instead of planning out the whole kitchen sink from start to finish that might take years to develop. I’d love to hear anybody’s experiences with different development methods from those who read this blog. Please leave a comment below (yeah, you gotta log in so I can somewhat prevent comment spam).
